For as long as we can remember, the public has referred to Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips as processors and things are not any different for MediaTek and Samsung's offerings. "More importantly, the word "platform" will be used to explain the combined key user experiences - camera, connectivity, battery life, security, immersion - that these essential technologies are created to deliver", the company said in a blog post.

Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has been rumoured to launch its new smartphones this year with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. Technologies like the RF Front End, Qualcomm Quick Charge, Qualcomm Aqstic audio DAC, touch controllers and fingerprint technology - all work together with the SoC to deliver a smooth user experience.

Starting today, Qualcomm is asking for journalists (nope) and tech fans alike to refer to its mobile processors the "Snapdragon Mobile Platform".

While earlier reports suggested that the Xiaomi Mi 6 could be unveiled in April, the latest one suggests that the launch could be "postponed" to May, which is happening to most other smartphones that are going to be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 SoC. The move will enable the company to better "articulate the value that we provide to a device manufacturer", Qualcomm vice president of product marketing Don McGuire said in a blog post. Lower-end processors, such as the Snapdragon 200 series, will now be marketed under another new brand name: Qualcomm Mobile. It's clear that Qualcomm simply wants to shift some of the attention to all the non-CPU bits it also builds.

Snapdragon is more than just a piece of silicon, or CPU that most of us term, it is more than a technology that is a combination of software and hardware elements which the Word Processor is not justifying said Qualcomm.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon group is developing into a major tech company at the global level. The company talks how the new strategy will help in better clarity. That offers a surge of nearly 30% in area efficiency, a 27% performance boost, and a 40% decline in power consumption. It's expanded to mobile PCs, IP cameras, VR/AR headsets, and drones over the past few years.
