Cheltenham Festival Results and Day Four Preview

It looks very much like it could be third time lucky for the eight-year-old who looks to be the ideal age and candidate to win a Gold Cup which is obviously missing a few high-profile stars.

Speaking afterwards, Sizing John's owner Alan Potts said: "It's unreal". However it was Sizing John who ultimately came with the telling push between the final two fences to win by two and three quarter lengths, in doing so completing a big-race double having won the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown back in February. But I had a lot of confidence in this horse.

"I was only 25 when I won the National and I'm 35 now". I never seemed to have any stayers in the past.

Victory gave Harrington a first victory in jump racing's greatest prize, with Power also winning the Gold Cup for the first time.

Douvan (Fr) (Walk In The Park ), who has been found to have a stress fracture to his pelvis following a below-par run in Wednesday's G1 Queen Mother Champion Chase, has indeed been something of a nemesis for Sizing John, who has finished placed behind him on seven occasions, including being runner-up in last year's G1 Racing Post Arkle Trophy at the Festival when trained by Henry de Bromhead. The horse is trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Ruby Walsh, and with four winners on Thursday, the money is piling in for the Irish raider who is backable at around 3/1.

An emotional Philip Hobbs told of his relief after Defi Du Seuil continued his unbeaten form since joining the yard, when winning today's opening race, the Grade One JCB Triumph Hurdle. "It is a celebration of, and an opportunity for us to showcase, all that is good about the industry", he said.

"He wears his heart on his sleeve and we are so proud of him".

"He has come back safe and that is the main thing we were concerned about".
