Northwestern holds on for wild 68-66 victory over Vanderbilt

If Northwestern wins, they will face the victor of Gonzaga and South Dakota State in a second-round, "Sweet 16" match-up on Saturday, March 18. Northwestern's 23 wins entering the tournament were the most in school history, and its 20 last season were tied for second-most. They had never played in an NCAA Tournament game until Thursday.

The Vanderbilt Commodores play the Northwestern Wildcats in one of the NCAA Tournament basketball games on Thursday, start time at 4:30 AM ET, at Vivint Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake City.

The victory advanced the Wildcats to the Round of 32, where they'll take on top-seeded Gonzaga on Saturday here in Utah.

After the Commodores took a 66-65 lead on a driving layup, McIntosh was fouled by Matthew Fisher-Davis before he even got to half court.

But then the tide changed, with Vanderbilt scoring 12 consecutive points to make it a tight game again.

The 28-year-old Sanders was out of the National Basketball Association for more than two years. Cleveland signed Deron Williams and forward Larry Sanders while Love was sidelined.

Northwestern had a couple nine-point leads in the early going, but Vandy kept chipping away, getting a few 3-pointers and bunching points together to get the lead to three, later two and later one.

MCINTOSH MOMENT: McIntosh led the Wildcats with 25 points, none more important than those that came on his only two free throws of the night. The Commodores are peaking at the right time, having won seven of nine to close out the year.

Northwestern's got a bunch of players set to return next year.

Now, here are some things for NU fans to print out.
