Former national security adviser Michael Flynn received almost $70,000 in compensation from three separate Russian companies in 2015, just before he joined the Trump campaign, newly released documents show.
Cummings, the senior Democrat on the House Government Oversight Committee, noted in a letter addressed to Trump, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey, that Flynn also received $11,250 from a Russian charter airline and $11,250 from the United States arm of Kaspersky, a prominent Russia-based cyber security company.
Cummings' detailed account of Flynn's Russian Federation payments came a week after Flynn acknowledged in a Justice Department filing that he had served as a paid agent for the Turkish government at the same time that he was a foreign policy adviser to Trump's campaign and was receiving classified intelligence briefings.
Flynn was forced to resign as Trump's national security adviser after reports emerged that he had mischaracterized his communications with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. to Vice President Mike Pence.
The US intelligence community has long assessed RT to be a propaganda tool of the Kremlin, writing in its January report on Russian interference in the US election that the organization had participated in disinformation campaigns aimed at the US.
Flynn began advising Trump on foreign policy matters in early 2016, according to published reports.
He says they violate the emoluments clause of the Constitution which bars retired military officials from accepting gifts or payments from any foreign government.

Cummings was referring to the intelligence agencies' conclusion that Russian Federation instigated cyber-hacking of Democratic party officials and organizations in the months before the presidential election.
