Packers have no clear-cut replacement after losing TJ Lang to Lions

Last time, Lang signed a 4-year, $20.8 million deal, and had a $6.1 million cap hit last season.

When the Green Bay Packers cut Pro Bowl left guard Josh Sitton last September, they had an obvious replacement in Lane Taylor. He grew up near Detroit and played college football at Eastern Michigan University.

Still, Bob Quinn has shown his devotion to fixing the offensive line in an effort to improve the Lions' running game, which ranked 25th in DVOA in 2016. "I was no different and when this opportunity came about I got really excited about it".

Over the past two years, the right guard has only given up 2.5 sacks, allowing quarterback Aaron Rodgers to move around in the pocket and continue his dominance as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. Despite being hobbled by a nagging hip injury that required postseason surgery and a broken foot, Lang managed to play in all but three games.

Reports said police officers, many armed with machine pistols and bullet-proof vests, had even forced out early morning staff. A shopping centre in the north-western German city of Essen was shut by police on Saturday over fears of an imminent attack.

He is the second offensive lineman to join the Lions in free agency, along with Rick Wagner, who signed a five-year, $47.5 million deal with $29.5 million guaranteed. Lang has agreed to a three-year contract with the Detroit Lions, the team announced Sunday. Packers coach Mike McCarthy, speaking at the combine, said he didn't anticipate the guard being ready to return to the field until training camp.

"I had a couple of great visits", Lang said. "No doubt about it".

Lang will also be joining Ricky Wagner on the Detroit offensive line.
