This one comes from Korea Economic Daily that says the upcoming flagship smartphone from Samsung will feature facial recognition. While the predecessors have significantly smaller displays, the form factor of the Galaxy S8 with a 5.8-inch display increases only a little, and the large difference in display size is due to thin nearly bezel-less nature of the upcoming smartphone. Now even Samsung recognizes that Iris scanning without facial recognition was all but useless and the new feature race is now surrounding facial recognition, now that Apple has been rumored to be preparing it for one of their next iPhone models debuting this fall. "With a face scanner, it will take less than 0.01 seconds to unlock the phone", the official added.
The use of this security feature may find favor with Galaxy S8 users and could well become the primary method, superseding fingerprint and iris scanning. Last year, carrier-based Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were released in the U.S.in early March, with the unlocked variants following up months later on the final day of June. The official launch, on the other hand, was earlier confirmed to be on March 29, with events happening in NY and London. Both devices will offer curved displays and will not have a physical home button beneath the display.
